Who are we?
AACE was founded by David and Suzette Levy, and Barbara Brown to share the knowledge they have gained by working with the family caregiving moms, daughters, spouses and sons of patients with neurological conditions and memory disorders, stroke survivors, diabetics and those with Parkinson’s Disease. They have also been, or are presently caregivers to parents, spouses and children.
The Board of Directors:
Gary Barg
Gary is the editor-in-chief of Today’s Caregiver Magazine and a passionate advocate and speaker on caregiving. His most recent endeavor is as editor of the book “The Fearless Caregiver”, a gathering of favorite articles and personal accounts from many caregiver and professional authors.
Steven Barg
Steven joined his brother at Today’s Caregiver several years ago from his career as a developer and shopping mall manager. He brings his business and consumer knowledge to both the magazine and AACE.
Barbara Brown
Barbara brings years of administrative experience to AACE as well as the development of educational programs, presentations, and community organizing and developing the largest support group network in the country. She has been the Executive Director for the Broward County Alzheimer’s Association, the South Florida chapter of the National Stroke Association and American Diabetes Association and is presently the I & R Coordinator for the American Parkinson Disease Foundation.
Vice President, Stephen Bruno
Stephen is the founder and CEO of Computer Solutions & Software, an international provider of software development and technical support. His company developed the software for the innovative tracking system for the Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative in Florida.
Chairman of the Board, and Secretary/Treasurer, David Levy, JD
David is a past co-founder and President of AdultCare, Inc and presently is a co-founder and President of Family Caring Inc. in Deerfield Beach, Florida. David has over 10 years of experience developing innovative programs for educating and supporting caregivers and their families through his business efforts and public/community work.
President, Suzette Levy
Suzette was actively involved in the establishment of the Memory Disorder Clinic at North Broward Hospital in Pompano Beach, Florida in 1986. The clinic has grown under her directorship to the present Neurological Institute. The Institute provides a neurodiagnostic lab, education and caregiver support for a wide range of conditions such as MS, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and related memory disorders, stroke, balance and sleep disorders.
Joanne Guyton, RN, PhD
Joanne received her PhD from Wayne State University. She recently retired from her long-time faculty position at the Medical College of Ohio @ Toledo (MCO). She is known as an innovator in nursing education and continues her interests in university committees. She was most recently involved at MCO at the Center for Creative Instruction.
Executive Director, Christine Nicholson, RN, MSA
Christine brings her experience caring for patients with mental illness and neurological disorders and their families to AACE. She has a background in cross cultural nursing, various nursing disciplines, supportive therapy and administration. Christine is presently VP of Product Development for the Boomerang Family Caregiver Support Program in Deerfield Beach, Florida.
H. Murray Todd, MD, FAAN
Murray is presently the Medical Director of the Neurological Institute at North Broward Medical Center and a past chief of Staff. He is active in community education efforts, speaking tirelessly on radio, television and in open forums to inform physicians, nurses and the public on health care issues facing those with dementias, Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions. He is a voluntary associate professor of Neurology and both the University of Miami School of Medicine and Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic medicine.
